Volvo and Securitas launch vehicle security service
An emergency alert service aimed at reducing the risk of theft, hijacking and other security threats has been launched jointly by Volvo and Securitas Alert Services. It is called simply Security Service. It is built round Volvo’s existing Dynafleet on-board computer and telematics system, and uses Securitas to provide call centre services. In the event of an emergency, the driver hits a “panic” button in the cab, and on receiving an alert, Securitas contacts the haulage firm or the local police. The driver can also directly contact the call centre by mobile phone. Milton Keynes-based Securitas Alert Services is a subsidiary of Securitas, the giant Swedish-based global security business, which says it already has similar traffic safety systems in place in a number of countries.
