Thermo King expands into fully-fledged truck telematics

Vehicle and driver management are being added to the features on offer as part of the TracKing web-based remote monitoring system from refrigeration specialist Thermo King. Effectively, the company is now pushing TracKing as a fully fledged transport telematics system.

The expanded fleet management system will interface with the vehicle CANbus data spine to provide information on fuel consumption, driving behaviour, engine performance and vehicle emissions. The company says it will provide fleet managers with a “dashboard” presentation of cost-critical information by trip, driver and vehicle, helping them to gauge the productivity of their fleets.

Thermo King launched its TracKing system a year ago, initially focusing on tracking and monitoring load temperature and the performance of refrigeration systems. Now it has taken the system to what it calls the next generation.

It is a measure of the company’s commitment to this market that it has appointed a business director telematics, Gayatri Chaturvedi, who comments: “Fleet managers … want a system that combines temperature, vehicle, driver and trailer information into one user-friendly interface and that integrates into their back office systems. The new TracKing system will be flexible enough to do that.”

At the international motor show in Frankfurt Thermo King is also due to launch an enhanced version of its fuel management system. This includes a range of features such as a fuel sensor for the refrigeration unit fuel tank, an anti-siphon device and an LED.
