QVC expands, sit-up channels renews
Home shopping TV channel QVC has given an official opening to an automated high-bay warehouse at Knowsley, which is said to have doubled its storage capacity. The new 37 metre high premises can hold 30,000 pallets. The development is part of a £20 million expansion programme by the company. QVC says it despatched 13.6 million parcels last year, and that volumes were up 7.4 per cent in the first six months of this year over last. Meanwhile rival TV retailer sit-up channels has extended a fulfilment contract with NYK Logistics for a further five years. sit-up channels, part of the Virgin Media Group, owns the bid tv, price-drop tv and speed auction tv digital home shopping channels. NYK says there can be up to 15,000 stock-keeping units in the system, of which around 8,000 are live at any one time. It says it was responsible for the despatch of 11.1 million customer orders last year, and dealt with more than 97 per cent within 48 hours of order receipt. NYK also handles re-working and supply of clearance product to sit-up’s two retail stores in Huddersfield and Hatfield.
