New managing director for Psion Teklogix

Psion Teklogix has appointed Paul Westmoreland as its new managing director UK. His brief is to maintain the company’s leading position in the UK’s mobile computing technology solutions market.

Paul brings a broad range of experiences to the company. His previous roles have included senior management positions in a variety of markets, from the finance industry to the agricultural sector and, more recently, the electronic and AutoID industry with companies such as Itronix.

Paul has extensive experience of handling large key accounts as well as indirect channel development, together with knowledge of such important sectors as the utilities, telecommunications and field service industries.

Commenting on his new role, Paul Westmoreland said: “Wireless data capture and networking feature a host of innovations such as voice technology and RFID that offer ever more efficient communications across networks and enterprises.

"For our customers this means improved operations, accuracy, productivity and profitability. The challenge for Psion Teklogix is to continue to lead the way in offering these benefits in devices that are as functional and rugged yet also as compact as possible in order to make the mobile worker’s job as simple and effective as it can be. It’s a task Psion Teklogix is more than up to meeting.”

Neo makes its mark

Westmoreland joins the company just as Psion Teklogix's ergononic new NEO handheld is gaining momentum in the market. NEO combines rugged durability with ergonomics, featuring a unique angled display for optimal viewing during data capture. It also has a brilliant colour touch screen offering brightness and clarity for easier readability both indoors and outdoors.

The company has positioned NEO as a new device option for existing customers, while simultaneously opening new market opportunities for both Psion Teklogix and its channel partners. Further, after a 13-year production run of its Workabout MX, Psion Teklogix says the NEO is able to provide the customer base for this product with an ideal replacement product and addition to its portfolio of class-leading devices.

NEO takes full advantage of Microsoft Windows® CE .NET 5.0 to integrate a number of advanced data capture and communications functions that increase worker productivity and connect users with their critical applications whether in the store, warehouse or remote job site.

They include an integrated imager or laser scanner, and wireless local area network (WLAN) and Bluetooth® wireless capabilities. In addition, NEO takes advantage of Psion Teklogix’ PTX Connect™ application to deliver voice over IP (VoIP) with discrete push-to-talk for real-time voice communications as well as instant and text messaging functions. NEO can be easily expanded to incorporate new technologies, such as radio frequency identification (RFID), according to users' future application requirements.
