Telematics suppliers extend their offerings

More suppliers in the vehicle telematics space are extending their portfolios to include a broader range of functionality – often adding operational management features to their basic capabilities. The latest include Daimler, Navman Wireless, Cybit and TomTom.

Daimler FleetBoard has launched what its DispoPilot solution to support what it calls “the logistics management processes of transport companies”. This includes on-site scanning of delivered goods and acknowledgement of receipt, as well as integrating satnav to direct drivers from one call point to the next.

It has chosen the Intermec CN3e rugged mobile computer for the DispoPilot solution, and alongside its general robustness, cites interoperability CN3e with the CoPilot navigation software from ALK Technologies as a key factor in its selection.

The latest development from Navman Wireless, which claims to be the UK’s largest manufacturer of tracking, messaging and navigation equipment, takes the company in a different direction, allowing fleet operators to monitor the temperature of cargo in real time from their PCs.

Cybit has launched Fleetstar Logistics, which marks a move by the company beyond “classic” telematics functions and into fully-featured transport management. The company is positioning it as “an affordable fleet telematics package including CANbus and digital tachograph interface for the mass market”.

Meanwhile, TomTom WORK and UK-based routing and scheduling solution provider DPS are offering an integrated end-to-end scheduling and job despatch solution, which is said to allow scheduling and route planning to be optimised using the real-time information provided by TomTom WORK.

Expected arrival times from the TomTom Navigation device are fed back to the DPS scheduling platform, allowing the system to react to changing conditions on the road in real time.
