Entryphone-to-mobile delivery access solution
Among key innovations described in detail in the 'delivery solutions special' latest issue of Fulfilment & e.logistics is the ParcelPal entryphone-to-mobile phone delivery access solution, which is already featured on the F&E web site. This brand new home delivery solution from new start-up company ParcelPal connects a consumer's front door intercom to their mobile phone, allowing them to unlock a doorstep drop-box for the delivery driver by remote control, using only the keypad on their phone. The delivery driver simply presses a front door bell-push in the normal way, and this triggers a call from the property's land line to the recipient's personal phone, from which the user can speak to the driver via the intercom, and unlocks the box by using a sequence of keypresses on the phone. The company says extensive research was done on the length of time delivery drivers are prepared to wait at the doorstep before abandoning a delivery, and the magic figure is about 14 seconds. The ParcelPal system can make the connection in six to eight seconds. The system will be offered as a complete package, either to buy outright or on a pay-as-you-go basis. The technology will also be available for use under licence by other suppliers of box system. ParcelPal tells us a leading carrier has also identified a business application for the technology, and is planning to mount a trial this summer.
