Pistol-grip handheld for intensive data gathering
![]() A pistol-grip handheld computer, the 9950, has been added to the Dolphin 9900 series from Honeywell, targeting work environments requiring large amounts of data capture and information management. The pistol grip feature is intended to help facilitate comfortable single-handed data collection over extended shifts. To give it the maximum appeal, the company is offering the 9950 with a choice of three keypad configurations, including a full alphanumeric keypad for warehouse and distribution environments and a smaller keypad with shifted alphanumeric functions for simple retail use. The new model runs Windows Mobile 6.0, and offers various features of the advanced 9900 series, which was launched a year ago, including a Marvell PXA 270 624 MHz processor, 256MB RAM and 1GB flash memory to ensure fast performance in data intensive applications. Wi-Fi wireless network to 802.11b/g standard is included, and the 9950 also features advanced Adaptus® Imaging Technology for barcode scanning and picture taking. Honeywell says the Dolphin 9950 provides full Shift-PLUS battery performance – over ten hours’ use – eliminating the need to replace batteries during most work shifts. It has an impressive IP64 rating for dust and water resistance, and is designed to survive 5ft drops to concrete and more than 2,000 3ft tumbles.
