20 April 2012 Real-time traffic considered in TomTom despatch system
The Webfleet transport and delivery management system from TomTom has gained a new feature allowing operators to handle despatch management on the basis of shortest journey time rather than distance. The company has been able to add this capability by drawing on the actual and expected traffic information on the journey to the call point. This information in turn is derived from TomTom’s real-time HD Traffic and IQ Routes systems. The company says recent independent research by the German Aerospace Centre shows that these can reduce drive times by 13 per cent on average, and by up to 30 per cent in congested areas.
