Expert Peripheral Designs, an independent barcoding specialist, is majoring on the Dolphin family of handheld computers from HHP for an asset tracking service called Asset-i.

Asset-i enables companies to keep track of fixed assets such as IT equipment, furniture and vehicles. Each item is identified by a unique barcode number, which is linked via a database to a unique location label. By scanning the barcode, users can move, add or dispose of assets whilst keeping track of each item.

ExPD has been a reseller of HHP's Dolphin mobile computers for several years, and says that they are the ideal hardware solution for this application. Initially the company has chosen the 7200 model, but is expecting to switch to the 9500 and 9550 Pocket PC models, and to a new model, the 7900, which is due to appear later this year.

ExPD offers a range of other services, solutions and peripherals, and works with a variety of handheld terminal manufacturers.
