Real-time connectivity in HaulTech TMS
What happens if hauliers want to integrate a real-time proof of delivery system into their chosen transport management system? With some lower-cost systems they might be struggling, but one developer, HaulTech, has recognised the need to make provision for real-time wireless connectivity in the latest version of its Traffic Management System. It's just one of a range of a range of connectivity features calculated to single out the product when operators are investigating the options. Another is intelligent barcode reading, which allows codes to be scanned directly into the system. A further innovation is "instant mapping" capability. HaulTech's TMS now has Microsoft's MapPoint mapping software integrated into it, and one of the ways of using this is to type in a delivery address. The software then immediately produces the best route to get to it.
That's only one use of the mapping, however; it is also used to support a real-time track and trace feature. And there is a more formal routing system too, plus a "diary" system. All in all, HaulTech says the system can plan, track, trace, schedule and invoice deliveries, and can be used through an intranet, over the Internet, via VPN (virtual private network) or over a leased line. Which makes it more surprising that the package is available on a pay-as-you-go basis at a starting price of just £10 a month.
