Rapid development for handhelds
Momote, a comparatively new name in rapid development systems for mobile handheld devices, has announced the general availability of its MX Platform. The company says the system has already been used to develop a range of applications allowing mobile workforces to do things like access and amend information on parcels, people, timesheets and appointments, and manage stock and place orders. Now it's available to users who want to build their own applications. Rapid development systems usually use a graphical interface to provide access to existing functions, whilst allowing some room for customisation, and they are often platform-specific. However, Momote says its MX Platform allows a single application to be developed, deployed and run on almost any mobile device regardless of its operating system (which can include mobile phone, Microsoft Smartphone, Blackberry or PDA). It uses an open, standards-based architecture that combines the concept of a user interface language such as WML with the programming capability of a scripting language.
