Four-mode PDA from HP
T-Mobile users in the United States are the first to be able to benefit from this new Hewlett-Packard iPAQ PDA, the h6300, which is being promoted as the first to combine Bluetooth 1.1, and Wi-Fi (802.11b), GSM voice service and GPRS wireless networking in a single device appealing to consumers as well as the business community. HP says it underlines the growing convergence between the data and voice markets. The model is one of a new range announced by HP, which also includes the hx4700, which is said to be the first Pocket PC to feature a touch pad with a mouse-like cursor. The 4700 also features a generous 4in VGA screen, which is said to make it possible to display Powerpoint and similar business presentations without the need to modify documents to fit the screen. Another new model, the h6315, includes a feature that automatically connects it to the fastest available wireless network, and switches to an alternative network if the initial connection is lost. One of the secrets of the h6300 is a device called a WISMO P5186 module from Wavecom, which combines a data connection with GSM voice capability.
