Comprehensive telematics package from GlobeTrac
A comprehensive array of vehicle tracking, messaging and real-time mobile communications is promised from a new telematics system launched in the UK by GlobeTrac. It is the WebTech 5000 from US-based WebTech Wireless, with whom GlobeTrac has a master distribution arrangement for Europe. At the heart of the system is the WebTech 5000 Locator, a self-contained device that includes GPS receiver, GSM/GPRS wireless, memory and a range of management capabilities. Features include GPS reporting on a wide variety of triggers; store and forward capability; multiple geofences; optional internal batteries for anti-theft/anti-tamper applications; and Internet connectivity. There is GPS antenna disconnect alarm to discourage tampering by drivers, and there are four standard telemetry ports (two input and two output). All this is housed in a new streamlined, rugged polycarbonate case, which can be connected to various external input and display devices such as Pocket PC and Palm PDAs and WebTech's own input terminal. Pricing is described as attractive and realistic, and GlobeTrac chief operating officer Colin Albert says the company is already in negotiations to supply over 6,000 of the new units.
