PDA with integrated GPS
A PDA with built-in GPS capability is expected to be launched by a relatively unfamiliar name in this market, d-Media of Taiwan - a company better known in the outsourced manufacturing business. It seems to be planning a launch in its own right for the new model, currently called the In-View N-911, which is expected to target both automotive and consumer markets. The device will have an Intel 300 MHz processor, 64MB RAM, a 320 x 240 (QVGA) 260,000-colour 3.5in LCD display, and an SD slot for peripheral devices. It will run under Windows Mobile Pocket PC 2003. A UK company, Sarantel, will have a significant role in the GPS functionality. It is providing its GeoHelix miniaturised antenna, which is said to have been chosen for its small size, high sensitivity and consistent performance. The company says its characteristics make it equally suited to being mounted in a vehicle device and handheld PCs. The GPS functionality includes accurate positioning in a range of difficult and hostile environments, with detailed maps, points of interest and directional information.
