Internet updating of Radix handhelds
If you want to update the information on a whole group of handheld data collection terminals at the same time, whether they are in the depot or not, Radix has a new solution. It has launched a software suite called Admire Communications, which uses TCP/IP (Internet Protocol) as the core communication technology, and is making it available across its whole range of handheld computers, whether they run DOS, Windows CE or Windows CE.NET. The company already offered a range of multi-way plug-in data loaders for depot use, but the attraction of the new system is that it is much more flexible. It offers enhanced performance in infra-red optical multi-loader systems, and also allows the devices to be connected in various other ways. These include local-area network connectivity via wireless PCMCIA network card in the handhelds or integrated network card in the loader/charger; direct or dial-up connection to all handhelds and loader/chargers using the standard PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) in Windows; and full mobile connectivity using PPP over GSM/GPRS. In other words, wherever the device is, it should be updateable more easily.
