Central Telecom mobilises with Cybit
Central Telecom, an integrated communications specialist, is to fit Cybit's Fleetstar-Online Web-based vehicle tracking and asset management solution in 60 vehicles driven by its nationwide team of engineers. It aims to be able to monitor its fleet in real time, and optimise the utilisation of its mobile assets and workforce. Central Telecom is said to be one of the UK's largest and most successful independent voice and data specialists. With Fleetstar-Online it plans to access its vehicle usage, keep up-to-date records on each vehicle's location, and monitor the routes taken to various sites throughout the country. It says this will allow it to minimise costs, not only in terms of running the vehicles and fuel, but also through time savings. "We required a solution that could supply our help desk teams with information on the real-time locations of all our field service engineers," says IT manager Simon Taylor. Fleet vehicles are fitted with a small electronic in-vehicle unit (IVU) which is tracked by GPS in real time and data transmitted to Cybit's online control centre. Central says it was attracted to the fact that apart from the requirement to fit these units, it faced no other setup requirements. The system is hosted by Cybit, and can be accessed as and when required.
