More powerful database features in IMDs do-it-yourself handheld software
More mobile power and better integration are promised with a new version of the mForms application for handheld devices from Integral Mobile Data. In version 2.0 the company has added the ability for users to create new databases directly from a handheld, and has provided for integration with host networks via Web Services. Security features have also been enhanced. The company maintains that even in its original guide, mForms was distinctive in the way it offered automatic database table creation. The new version 'goes one step further,' the company says, using adaptive database technology to create tables in a variety of environments such as those based on Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and IBM's DB2. Meanwhile, an advanced mobile security module within mForms now includes support for automatic denial-of-service detection and prevention. The original mForms system allows users to define 'forms' for handhelds on PCs, then download them to any Windows-driven device. Data transmission is handled either in real time or by other deferred methods. Features include the ability to integrate with a range of peripheral devices such as GPS modules, digital imagers, barcode and RFID readers and smartcards.
