Norfolk haulier is sold on Volvos new Dynafleet

By adopting Volvo's new Internet-based Dynafleet Online transport information system, Norfolk-based haulier Richard Long says it has already saved fuel by cutting engine idle times from 18 to 11 per cent. It has been supplied on two new Volvo tractor units, a six-wheeler FH16 and a four-wheeler FH12 460.

The upgraded, wholly Web-based Dynafleet package was launched this summer (m.logistics, July-August), introducing new features such as street-level mapping and a completely new interface. The package taken by Richard Long includes the mapping and 300 free outgoing text messages per month, and is available for £40 per truck per month.

Richard Long himself says there were various attractions in the new system, including ease of use, communication options, ability to view fuel consumption, and driver performance. Transport manager Peter Tucker says: "We aren't afraid of trying something new, and with new Dynafleet Online we are already reducing costs and improving driver performance."

He adds: "The mapping system is very detailed, providing us with real-time locations of our trucks right down to street-level. We can communicate with our drivers via SMS text messaging using a system not dissimilar to an email programme, knowing that as a back-up the system also includes mobile phone capability."
