The power of geography
Geographic data, real-time traffic information, historical data and other third-party data can make a massive contribution to streamlining transport operations. That's the message currently being promulgated by Geographic Intelligence for Transport (GIfT), a forum of leading industry players - and it's being conveyed in another of its periodic seminars on 30 November at the Ordnance Survey headquarters in Southampton. The organisers reckon the event should give a real insight into the power of geographic intelligence for the travel and transport industry. Stephen Glaister, Professor of Transport and Infrastructure at Imperial College London, will deliver the keynote speech, looking at the issues facing the transport industry in 2005. Alongside OS, other supporters of the forum include the Freight Transport Association, FaberMaunsell, Serco and Dotted Eyes. The event is free to anybody in transport, but you need to book. Go to www.g-intelligence.co.uk/gift, or phone 08456 05 05 05.
