Customisable journeys with Alturion GPS

If you're looking for a satellite navigation system that gives you more opportunity than most to customise your journeys, the latest version of the Alturion GPS system for Pocket PCs could be your answer. The company claims that it offers an unprecedented degree of control to users to define how their journeys are constructed.

As examples, you can take account of the current traffic situation, the kind of vehicle you're driving, personal preferences for scenic routes, or the desire to use or avoid toll roads. You can also block off certain roads, which will then not be taken into account in planning routes. The traffic information is take from the TMC system, and is said to be able to take 3,400 "events" into account.

Another new element is the opportunity to consult past information on traffic tailbacks. This lets you know how long a tailback was along a particular road at a particular time of the day.

Prices for Alturion GPS version 6 range from 129 to 499 euros. A complete package including Pocket PC is offered at prices starting at 399 euros.
