Fuzzy logic offered on Belgraviums Atlanta terminals
"Fuzzy logic" scanning capability has been introduced by Belgravium on its Atlanta 8000 series of handheld computers. This is the technology that allows computers to use a form of artificial intelligence to interpret data. It helps scanners make sensible guesses when reading badly printed or otherwise flawed barcodes. Belgravium says the technology it is using enhances the barcode image to provide improved working ranges on all symbols. The result, it says, is that it produces the best first-time read rate on all types of barcodes, including low-contrast, high-density and dot matrix symbols. It is also said to be good with damaged, dirty and poorly printed codes. There are two versions of the new fuzzy logic engine - the SE 824, which works at over 40in, and the SE 1524ER, which works at up to 45ft. The SE 824 offers a range of programmable parameters, which can be configured via the serial interface or by means of scanning barcode menus. Use of the standard simple serial interface (SSI) protocol is said to ensure compatibility with other scan engines from Belgravium.
