Radix handhelds in RFID parking enforcement system
A vehicle parking control enforcement system using RFID tags to identify eligible residents has been put together by handheld computer manufacturer Radix for Parkmobile, a parking systems specialist. The Parkmobile solution uses an RFID transponder card to prevent parking permit fraud or ticket misuse. It replaces paper permits, and has the added advantage that it is issued only once, and remains active as long as the resident is eligible to have a permit. A Radix handheld computer with RFID scanner and GPRS wireless connection to base is used to check the status of permits, or "virtual parking tickets", in real time. A permit is immediately cancelled and de-activated if it is lost or stolen. Radix has chosen SIRIT as the supplier for the RFID reading engine. SIRIT is a leading designer, developer, and manufacturer of RFID reader technology, products and solutions and supports a broad range of RFID tags, standards, frequencies and form-factors (including handheld, stationary, vehicle-mounted and linked to printers). Radix says the combination of its handheld units and SIRIT technology could equally offer "RFID-enabling" capabilities for a wide range of other applications in different markets needing ultra-rugged handheld computers and printers.
