Contour mapping from Intermap
A new set of digital contour maps of Britain has been launched by Intermap Technologies. They represent the latest phase of the ongoing NEXTMap project, under which Britain has been newly mapped electronically with airborne radar. The company claims this is the first new set of contour maps of their kind to have been produced for many years. The contours are resolved at 5-metre intervals, and the company says the maps are "quality-assured" by various techniques such as cross-referencing with aerial photography to ensure accuracy. The new NEXTMap datasets are already being adopted in a range of applications such as Fugawi SkyView software, which targets a range of tasks such mobile network planning. It is also compatible with other products such as Fugawi's UK Digital Streets series, enabling street names to be viewed as an overlay on the aerial photography.
