DLOGs tough on-board contender

A new contender for the on-board computer market - and that could mean either fork-lift trucks or road vehicles - has emerged in the form of the DNeTX7 from DLOG. It is supplied and supported in the UK by Progress Data Solutions, a company set up last year to supply DLOG and similar data capture and mobile computing systems.

The new model has an unusual form factor - a 7in colour TFT touch screen, which can be mounted in either landscape or its standard portrait orientation. The black bezel is also distinctive in featuring the maker's trademark rows of white programmable "soft" keys down both sides and across the top and bottom.

The unit is tough, operating down to minus 30 deg C and up to 50 deg C. Its IP rating for dust and water is 54.

It runs Windows CE 5.0 (embedded Linux is also offered), and comes with an Intel PXA2556 processor capable of operating up to a nippy 520MHz. Mass storage is provided by CompactFlash memory cards (up to 1Gbyte is supported).

The system is well endowed with connectivity features, and the company offers a range of networking options on PC Card or SDIO card.

DLOG is the leading mobile computer supplier in Germany, where is reckoned to have a 40 per cent market share. Progress Data Solutions offers a range of models in the UK, including full-screen truck-mount units running embedded Windows XP.
