Entry-level satnav from Navman
This is the latest, entry-level in-vehicle navigation system from Navman Europe. It extends the company's existing range, which already includes models at £680 and £595 (plus VAT). The iCN510, at £425, is expected to widen the appeal. The new unit shares many characteristics with existing models, while omitting features such as the full hard disk-based pan-European mapping of the iCN650 and infra-red remote control of the iCN635. Nevertheless, the iCN510 has a full set of street-level UK map data supplied by Teleatlas, which is supplied on memory card, and includes a dataset of over a million pre-installed points of interest, including petrol stations, shops, cinemas, hotels and historical sites. Users can add their own points of interest. There is also a new journey planner, which can create routes via a series of user-defined intermediate points. New "mini-maps" have also been introduced on the turn-by-turn navigation screen - which is one of four possible views. The others are 3D map view, 2D map view and a "four next manoeuvre" route summary.
The system is said to be instantly transferable between vehicles, suiting it well to commercial applications in which drivers exchange vehicles regularly.
