Navteq mapping completes US population coverage
Navteq, the digital mapping producer that specialises in mapping for in-vehicle navigation systems, has just reached a milestone (if that's the right term) with the release of mapping for the last two areas of the United States it had not previously covered. They are Alaska and the United States Virgin Islands. Alaska's geography is interesting, and as Navteq points out, differs significantly from that of the majority of the other United States. It ranks 47th out of the 50 states in terms of population (it has approximately 650,000 inhabitants), yet has the most land area of all the 50 United States - approximately 650,000 square miles. Some roads can only be reached by air or water.
