Cognito hits ten thousand mark with CitySprint
Having switched two years ago from a dedicated wireless network to a GPRS-based solution, mobile data specialist Cognito says it is now supporting over ten thousand individual units on the system. The company reached this landmark during the roll-out of a thousand-unit system for courier company CitySprint, and says this implementation is typical of the large contracts it has been winning lately. It is also one of its first major contracts in the courier sector. Other recent users include Siemens Traffic Controls, Blick, the Stanley Security Solutions company and Peterborough City Council. Cognito was founded back in 1992, when it claims to have been the first UK company to be awarded a licence to run a radio data network. Today the company carries over 500,000 individual messages a day across all four major GPRS networks, processing close to 50,000 messages an hour in peak periods.
