Tracker saves with switch to GeoConcept
Tracker Network (UK), the big tracking systems specialist, says that by switching to a different mapping engine for its on-screen mapping, it has reduced costs and paved the way for adding a range of new features. Yet to end users it says the change has been completely invisible. "As far as our customers are concerned, nothing has changed - except for the better," says product development manager Peter Crinson. Its software of choice is now GeoConcept Internet Server, the geographic information system from MapMechanics. Crinson says the licence for the previous proprietary system it used had increased fivefold in almost as many years. "We decided we simply had to find something offering the same or better features at a much more affordable price." He says the transition was virtually seamless and trouble-free. GeoConcept's capabilities have also brought Tracker more development control, it says. Already it has added a right mouse-click feature for calling up contextual detail. MapMechanics also supplies Tracker Network with Navteq Premium Streets vector map data of Britain and Andes raster mapping, plus street-level mapping for Ireland and Spain. Tracker says around 15,000 vehicles are now equipped with its on-board GPS-based location reporting and management systems. It has been operating since 1993.
