Wireless asset management system targets hire firms
A PDA-based wireless mobile computer application specifically targeting operators hiring out plant and assets has been launched by ThreeX. In essence, the "mobile eQuip" system is similar to other, more generic solutions already in use by companies doing collections and deliveries of other types of product, and requiring signature capture and similar features. Like many of these, it communicates via GPRS. However, for this market these facilities have been incorporated into an environment specifically related to asset hire. The company says benefits include reducing invoicing time, minimising administrative tasks, cutting out user error, encouraging sales orientation amongst depot staff, and ensuring the right drivers are allocated to the right jobs. The customer's signature is captured on screen, and supporting job data provides instant visibility of what has and hasn't been completed in the field. This is said to reduce the possibility of misunderstandings over bill payments later. The system is said to be equally capable in dealing with "on hire" and "off hire" assets.
