Tough terminal from Nordic ID
The latest handheld computer from Nordic ID, the PL3000, is purpose-designed for heavy usage in demanding conditions, and has extensive communications capability built-in. The company is also making the most of its slogan about "one-hand operation" to promote it. Integrated connectivity includes wireless local-area networking, Bluetooth (integrated long range), GPRS and GSM, and data capture options include RFID, 1D/2D barcodes and biometrics. In terms of robustness, the PL3000 is reported to have been drop-tested from 1.5 metres on to a concrete floor, and its operating temperature is between minus 10 deg C and plus 55 deg C. It has an IP54 classification. As for the underlying specification, the PL3000 has a 200 MHz ARM processor, 64 MB of RAM and variable SD/MMC memory, and runs under Windows CE.
