Following its acquisition last year of mapAmobile, the mobile phone-based tracking systems specialist, Cybit has added GSM phone-based tracking functionality to its Fleetstar-Online Internet-based fleet and asset management solution. The company says it gives users the best of both worlds.

"They can now have the inepth, accurate reporting and real-time tracking functionality of Fleetstar-Online," says chief executive Richard Horsman, "while also being able to track their workforce via their mobile phones."

He acknowledges that phone-based tracking does not offer "the pinpoint accuracy" of GPS tracking, but says the mapAmobile gateway is ideal for tracking staff, where such detailed tracking may not be required.

The mapAmobile technology has been incorporated in the latest release of Fleetstar-Online, and the location information it generates is accessible on the Fleetstar-Online location page, which can be viewed directly on a standard Web browser.

 

Fleetstar-Online is Cybit's scalable Internet-based telematics solution. Its features include real-time vehicle tracking, exception reporting, replay mode, customised reports, mileage information, SMS messaging and live traffic information.
