Modular handheld on the way from Intermec
Support for Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 will be built into the CN30, a new handheld terminal announced by Intermec. This unusual modular device is aimed particularly at retail applications, although as with most such devices, could find uses in mobile and similar applications too. The CN30 can be configured in a variety of ways according to the user's requirements for keyboard, accessories and so on. Among distinctive features is its 480 x 640 pixel display; Intermec says this offers enough resolution to provide four times the content of conventional "quarter VGA" displays, making Web-based applications are far more portable. Even "full screen" applications are possible, the company says. The system features Intermec's EV15 linear imager, which uses state-of-the-art Active Pixel Sensor (APS) technology, and is said to provide particularly dependable barcode scanning. It is flexible enough to scan all common barcodes and more reliably than conventional laser scanning, Intermec claims. Also offered are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless networking.
