Road Transport Directive pushes Scottish carrier towards telematics
Compliance with the new Road Transport Directive is one of the objectives that has prompted Scottish-based independent fuel distributor Bernard Brogan to install a telematics system in 50 of its large goods vehicles. It has chosen the Fleetstar-Online Web-based system from Cybit. "With the Road Transport Directive now in effect, we need a means to ensure that we are conforming with the legislation," says regional manager Andy McAvoy, "and decided that telematics would provide this." The company is installing the Cybit system in its fleet of rigid tankers, which are used to deliver fuels and oils to the domestic, agricultural and commercial/ construction sectors, and also in its articulated haulage fleet. Security was also a key factor in the company's decision to introduce a telematics system. "Our loads are obviously extremely valuable," McAvoy says, "and the 24/7 real-time location information offered by the Cybit solution allows us to track our vehicles in the event of theft to ensure that we are able to recover them as quickly as possible."
Fleetstar-Online rates start at £20 a month.
