Web services offer seamless mapping integration
Developers creating computer applications that use mapping, routing and related functionality can now buy in these features from map&guide, and embody them in their software by means of Web services access, using standardised SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) XML-based calls. It looks like a classic example of what Web services were supposed to offer automated low-level access to remote resources over the Internet, easing the integration process by using common standards. Map&guide says that developers taking advantage of its new service can embody extensive mapping and routing functionality in their systems (combined or used individually), without the need to set up a separate server. As examples, it mentions processes such as fleet management, call centre services, transport cost calculation, online searches for branches and simple route-planning.Ê The company is offering a variety of application modules and pre-configured components, which can be programmed into individual applications without taking up a lot of development time. Modules cover functions such as location (geocoding and backward-geocoding), mapping, routing, POI (point of interest) search, sequencing and address validation.
