Skeletal trailers targeted in Seven Eye tracking system
Skeletal trailers are the unusually specific target of a new satellite tracking and remote temperature monitoring system launched by Seven Eye. The company argues that skeletal trailers, which are of course used in the container transport market, require a special approach when it comes to tracking. According to general manager Rob Hart: "The container transport industry has long been a target for would-be thieves, and generally the first step taken in any attempted theft is to split the truck and trailer combination. This system will allow the most theft-attractive part of the combination, the trailer, to be tracked." The system is supplied with geofencing capabilities as standard, and can be set up to alert owners and operators immediately a trailer moves outside designated locations such as depots. The alerting can be done by SMS text message, email or voice alert call, which can be directed to any predefined numbers. The system is suitable for both 12 volt and 24 volt vehicles and trailers, and can work on either GPRS or GSM networks. The discreet system unit and antenna are mounted covertly on the trailer, drawing power from a long-life battery. Polling can be done at userefined intervals, and is performed at least once a day when the trailer is not connected to a tractor unit.
