Electronic tach deferment take-up continues
Following the decisions taken in Britain and Europe in recent months to defer the August 2005 date for fitment of electronic tachographs in new vehicles (m.logistics, issue 16), more individual EU member-states have announced that they will not be enforcing the requirement. Germany, for instance, confirmed this during May. Campaigning for the deferment now appears to be all over bar the shouting, although the UK's Freight Transport Association has pointed out that deferment cannot be taken as a universal given until all individual EU governments approve it. "Similar decisions now need to be taken in the remaining member states," says FTA Policy Director James Hookham.
