Vocollect launches new-gen voice computer, adds third-party support
Improved performance in voiceirecting picking operations should be in prospect for users of a new range of voice computers from Vocollect. The T2X is described as the company's next-generation wearable voice computer, and is said to be the first such device to feature Intel's 416 MHz PXA270 XScale microprocessor. At the same time, Vocollect has announced a software package called Vocollect Voice that enables the company's voiceirected applications to be run on selected third-party computers. The first release supports LXE and Symbol portable computers, and support for others is set to follow later this year. The new Intel chip in Vocollect's own T2X is said to give it double the processing speed of its predecessor, along with expanded memory capability and voice application performance advantages not found in other devices. Talkman T2x features Microsoft's Windows CE operating system and Intel's SpeedStep power management technology, and the company says this combination helps to push the T2x's battery life to more than 12 hours before it needs recharging. Vocollect says the T2x is compatible with all existing Talkman accessories, and can be integrated into applications using previous Talkman models. Explaining the rationale behind the move to extend Vocollect applications to third-party devices, vice president Larry Sweeney says it comes in response to client requests, especially from businesses using what he describes as "part-time applications".
