Extended push capabilities from Extended Systems
Mobile application developers should find it easier to adapt existing systems for 'push' technology following the release by Extended Systems of a set of enhanced developer tools for its OneBridge Mobile Platform. 'Push' techniques allow changes at the host end of a mobile wireless application to be delivered automatically to field units without having to be requested by the mobile user. Extended Systems says OneBridge can detect database changes and push them to a mobile device in the field in real time. No 're-architecting' for legacy applications necessary, the company says. Developers and independent software vendors can therefore quickly and easily build solutions that bring enterprise information to mobile workers. Extended says version 4.5 of its toolkit also enables developers building mobile solutions in the .NET or J2ME environments to embed Extended Systems' synchronisation, Web services and push engine technologies into their applications. There is no need for separate components on the client (mobile) device.
The embedded toolkit is now available for .NET, .NET Compact Framework (CF), and BlackBerry J2ME.
