Mobile solutions prompting a fundamental change

Mobile solutions are prompting a fundamental change in the way businesses structure and manage their activities, according to a new book, Connected Workforce, published by Cisco Systems. It says employers are already reaping productivity benefits from employee mobility, while employees are taking more control of their work/life balance by creating a 'a virtual workplace' wherever they are.

While some companies are merely distributing information through mobility solutions, the book says a few are restructuring more fundamentally - embedding knowledge directly into new streamlined business processes.

One of the contributors, Gino P Menchini, commissioner of IT and telecommunications for New York City, suggests that the events of Nine-Eleven prompted the city to review its working practices, and encouraged more people to embrace mobile technologies.

Connected Workforce costs £9.99, and is available directly from Cisco Systems through a special web site. See our www.FollowUpOnline.net site for a direct link.
