Insurance assessor cuts costs by tracking
Improveline, an insurance claim validation company, says it is expecting to save up to £275,000 a year by fitting a tracking system in its own vehicles. Altogether 114 vans and 40 cars supplied by contract hire specialist Westwood Automotive are being fitted with the Eagle Eye telematics system. The aim is to provide driver identity, daily activity and location logs, remote diagnostics and driver performance monitoring. The move comes as part of a wider deal between Westwood and Eagle Eye, under which Westwood will fit the supplier's telematics equipment in vehicles operated by a number of its customers. One of the key objectives is to help them reduce insurance premiums - a benefit that will not have been lost on Improveline. The Eagle Eye system incorporates a variety of technologies, including GPRS data transmission, the Internet and SMS alerting. Steve Nicoloson of Westwood lists improved safety, automated audit trail of journeys and improved customer service among key benefits of the system.
