Navteq adds Russia, Bulgaria maps
Mapping coverage of former eastern bloc countries continues to expand with the launch by Navteq of map datasets for Russia and Bulgaria. The first Russian maps include detailed coverage of the road networks of Moscow and St Petersburg, as well as major linking roads between these two cities and the neighbouring countries of Finland, Estonia and Latvia. They cover 34,000 kilometres of road network, and include over 4,700 points of interest in Moscow and St Petersburg. The Bulgarian data is more comprehensive, connecting 29 towns and cities with 25,000 inhabitants or more.
Navteq's east European portfolio also includes Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Greece and Hungary. Navteq maps are used extensively by satellite navigation systems, as well as in the wider world of geographic information systems. Among premier UK suppliers is MapMechanics, which also provides data preparation and formatting services.
