Tracking saves Thames Water ten per cent
Thames Water says it has cut fuel consumption in its transport fleet by 161,000 litres of diesel a year, or nearly 10 per cent of the former total, since installing the C-track vehicle tracking system from Digicore last year. The company points out that this equates to reductions in carbon dioxide emissions of approximately 429 tonnes - an important benefit for the company, which strongly espouses environmental best-practice policies. So far the C-track solution has been installed in 1,200 vehicles used by the company's service engineers. Its primary aim to is to help Thames Water to improve productivity, reduce overheads and gain other operating efficiencies. Tony Head, project sponsor at Thames Water, says the company expects to achieve even more savings when the solution has been fully 'embedded' in the company's business and operational processes. 'The
C-track system forms an essential aspect of our overall efficiency programme,' he says. Thames Water is largest water and wastewater services supplier in the UK. The company provides sewage services to 13 million people and drinking water to 8 million. Its supply area covers 5,000 square miles across London and the Thames Valley.
