TomToms two-wheeler satnav will use Navteq data
A navigation system specifically for motorcycle riders is to be unveiled later this year by TomTom, the Dutch based real-time navigation specialist - and when it appears, it will introduce Navteq mapping to the TomTom range, which has previously used mapping from other suppliers such as Tele Atlas. According to Navteq, the use of its digital mapping in the new TomTom Rider application means it could be made available across all TomTom's navigation products. Meanwhile, however, Tele Atlas remains TomTom's principal mapping supplier. It has just renewed a contract with the company that extends to 2007, and states that it will continue to be the key provider of digital maps and other content for use in TomTom GO, TomTom Navigator and TomTom Mobile platforms throughout Western Europe and North America.
