Integration of remote resource planning and management with real-time navigation seems to be a developing theme at the moment, and one of the most wide-ranging applications so far comes from Aspective, a field workforce automation specialist.

The company has joined forces with two other leading suppliers for its integrated solution. TomTom is providing the navigation system, while Viryanet is providing its Service Hub - the communications resource that handles the information delivery.

Aspective says the system will offer businesses with field force operations a comprehensive task management capability, along with resource tracking and navigation for remote workers equipped with wireless PDAs.

Field engineers will be able navigate to their next site without the need to enter the next destination manually, the company says, adding that for management, the ability to pinpoint remote workers' locations in real time opens the door to more dynamic and accurate scheduling.

 

There are parallels with other recently-launched systems such as MapMechanics Mobile (m.logistics, last issue) and products from Masternaut and other integrators.
