Branded identity for OEMs trailer tracking system
SecureLocator is the name now given by OEM Group to an RFID/GPRS asset tracking system first seen on an implementation for logistics contractor Christian Salvesen (m.logistics, Issue 19). The system uses RFID (radio frequency identification) tags on trailers to monitor their movement in and out of depots, and a GPRS data hub at each depot or major customer site to transmit this information back to a central monitoring point. OEM says the 1,500-trailer order from Salvesen gave a boost to the development of this system, which is one of a range of RFID-based tracking and alerting products now offered by the company. It has now emerged as a fully-fledged product in its own right. The system provides alerts of equipment movements at ten-minute intervals, but requires no induction loops, gantries or other fixed infrastructure at depots. The company claims it is 75 per cent less expensive than other comparable asset tracking systems.
