Brighter DAP screen
Canadian ruggedised computer specialist DAP Technologies has unveiled a new and more powerful version of its Microflex CE8800 mobile computer. The CE8820 now has 128Mb of standard memory with a 512Mb option; a brighter LCD display; and more keyboard functions. The unit has an Intel XScale 400MHz processor and Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 operating system. It weighs 2.6 lbs and includes an integrated voice communication system with fully-supported recording and playback abilities. Interface features include Ethernet connectivity, USB port and wireless capabilities. The new TFT 7in WVGA display has been introduced in response to customer requests for a brighter screen for use in places such as vehicle cabs. The 800 x 480 pixels full-colour LCD display supports rich content, and DAP says it is ideal for applications that involve high-density data or graphics. The on-screen keyboard incorporates application-specific hot keys, and cursor control is said to make on-site data entry very easy, even when users are wearing gloves.
