Coach operator keeps customers informed with tracking system
Coach operator The Kings Ferry has chosen Masternaut to supply a Web-based satellite tracking system for its 80-strong fleet in a contract that will cost the company around £350,000. Not only will the system give the company the ability to track its vehicles in real time; customers too are to be given online information about the exact whereabouts of vehicles on given schedules. The Masternaut system will be integrated with The Kings Ferry's existing management software, which was supplied by Distinctive Systems, one of the market leaders in passenger fleet management systems. It will also be integrated with in-cab satellite navigation systems for drivers. The system will provide updates every 30 seconds on the location of each vehicle and their current status (moving, idle, engine on or off). Managing director Steve O'Neill says the system will cut costs and reduce the need for calls about services, bringing benefits both to companies and to customers. He emphasises that the cost of the project will not have any adverse impact on fares levels.
