DTS upgrades to RFID seals
DTS Logistics has replaced the Secureseal Mechantronic trailer seal system from OEM Group that it uses on its vehicle fleet with an automated RFID-based security tracking system from the same company. The previous random-number generation system already allowed DTS to seal its vehicles effectively, but the codes has be read and recorded by depot staff manually. They were then used in a seal audit trail. Now DTS has introduced OEM's latest automated system, which uses RFID (radio frequency identification) to transmit the information to a receiver at each key location, where the data is fed to the Internet for tracking purposes. A self-powered transmitter is incorporated on each trailer, with a range of up to 300 metres. Battery life is said to be up to eight years.
