Cybit claims first with duty of care monitoring
Duty of Care monitoring has been added to the range of functions available with the Fleetstar-Online telematics package from Cybit. The company claims this is the first product of its kind to offer this sort of functionality, which it says has been prompted in particular by upcoming corporate manslaughter legislation. The company has also launched a new Driver ID, which allows users to identify exactly who is driving a fleet vehicle at any time or place. The Duty of Care module is offered as value-added extension to the its existing Internet-based fleet and asset management solution. It aims to help users to manage their ongoing driver and vehicle risk assessments, and generate detailed management reports as part of their overall drive to reduce their fleet risks. The system also generates information compatible with the requirements of the Working Time Directive. The new Driver ID solution is said to provide complete control over exactly which drivers are permitted to drive which vehicles within a fleet. Cybit says it is particularly applicable to fleets with drivers who work multiple or staggered shifts; to companies that use agencies to provide driver cover; to substitute drivers; and to fleets whose drivers simply select a van or car from the yard. A driver's identification can be confirmed through personal PIN code, a smartcard or a Dallas key. The system can be set up to immobilise the vehicle if wrong driver identification is submitted.
