Easier RFID integration
The march of RFID (radio frequency identification) into the realms of the supply-chain establishment has taken a further step forward with the announcement of a software standard for EPC (Electronic Product Code) technology. EPCglobal, which promotes the standard, is part of GS1, a not-for-profit standards organisation. The standard, known as the Application Level Events standard, or ALE, was developed by more than 100 leading companies within a workgroup of the EPCglobal Software Action Group and establishes the approach EPC-enabled software products will take in collecting, managing and routing data that EPC technology generates in the supply chain. Several major software vendors have tested the system for interoperability, including Acsis, ConnecTerra, GlobeRanger, IBM, Progress Software and Reva Systems.Ê
